Vanessa Jean-Louis

Storytelling has always been at the heart of who I am. What began as a simple hobby—capturing moments on video—quickly grew into a lifelong passion. While words often fall short of describing this love, I’ll do my best to share my journey with you.

It all started during my senior year at Summit High School (Class of 2002). Each senior was tasked with completing a WISE project—a unique opportunity to pursue a personal passion instead of attending regular classes.

For my project, I started a gospel choir in Newark, NJ, and produced a mini-documentary about it. I remember sitting in the computer lab for hours, editing my project. That experience sparked my obsession with storytelling through cinematography.

After college and graduate school, I worked as a School Counselor in Miami, Florida, and Irvington, New Jersey, for almost 17 years. I continued to use my love for storytelling to capture beautiful moments of my students—from mini-documentaries about my school to full-blown video productions while serving as Student Council Advisor. I am a two-time recipient of the NJ Governor’s Educator of the Year award (2017 & 2021), as voted for by my beloved colleagues in two different elementary schools where I had the privilege to serve.

After almost two decades in education, I transitioned to the private sector, serving as Vice President of Public Relations for a finance start-up.

In 2021, I founded a non-profit called Children of Haitian Immigrants (COHI, Inc.), which provides support services to migrant families.

I am the proud mother of a son who is now in middle school. He is the light of my life.

Now that you know a little more about me, I’d love the chance to help you tell your story—or capture your next event.
